In the BKT World Women's Curling Championship gold medal final, hosts Canada will take on defending champions Switzerland after two intense semi-finals played in front of a full house.

Before Switzerland defeated Italy 6-3 and Canada defeated Korea 9-7 in the semifinals, both matches went down to the final stone. Now, at 11:00, Korea and Italy will compete for the bronze medals, with the gold medal game scheduled for 17:00.

Canada vs Korea Preview

Canada's skip, Rachel Homan, opened the scoring in the semi-final match between her country and Korea with a draw for two points in the second end. In response, Korea's skip Gim Eunji played a double in the third end to score three points and take a 3-2 lead.

When Gim knocked out a Canadian stone to score two points and take a 7-6 lead at the ninth end, Canada was ahead 6-5. Homan scored three points and won 9–7 when he hit out a Korean stone that was lying open in the tenth end.

“I feel on top of the world right now. I’m so proud of my team for battling, they were phenomenal in front of me,” Following the victory, Homan commented. She also used this opportunity to thank this home crowd for their support.

Italy vs Switzerland Preview

The Italian skip, Stefania Constantini, played a raised take-out in the fifth end of the other semifinal match between Italy and Switzerland to square the score at 2-2 and give the Swiss the advantage.

Alina Paetz, the fourth player for Switzerland, drew her last stone into a crowded house in the seventh end with the score tied at 2-2, giving her team a 4-2 lead. After the eighth end was blanked, Italy's Constantini placed her last stone to score one point and cut the Swiss lead to 4-3 in the ninth end.

Finally, to complete a 6-3 victory, Switzerland's Paetz scored two points and knocked out two Italian stones in the tenth end.

The victory provides her team a chance to win a fifth consecutive global title, according to Switzerland's skip Silvana Tirinzoni. “I’m empty, I don’t know what to say, it was such an exhausting game. They played amazing” she said.
